My puppy attacked my sapling

Hi,
Just wondering if anyone might have suggestions to save the life of a
very young maple tree that's had a strip of bark torn off by a not-so-
bright beagle... can it survive this kind of injury?

Not to worry. Maples are though of as weeds around my place!
I can't keep them under control.

If they thrive under my axe I guess they can survive a cute little ol'
puppy. :-)
